‘Committed to reducing drug related harm’
About Drugs ActionDrugs Action provides a range of high quality services to people affected by drug use. This includes working with people at all stages of drug use from promoting ‘safer’ use, helping stabilise drug use through to supporting people who are abstinent, providing specific support on relapse prevention and supporting individuals if a relapse occurs. Drugs Action recognises the significant impact drug use can have on a partner, parent or other close family member and provides individual counselling and group support to assist ‘significant others’ in coping constructively with drug use in the family. A key focus of all services is to ensure packages of support are tailored to meet individual need, placing the client’s views and goals at the centre of the care package. In addition, Drugs Action places a high importance on evidenced based practice and uses techniques with proven track records to assist people in making positive changes in their drug use and wider lifestyle. Drugs Action also values service user involvement and has a number of structures in place to ensure service users have opportunities to comment on services and other relevant issues. Drugs Action currently has an active service user involvement group as well as a service user presence on the board of directors. Staff DevelopmentAt Drugs Action, we recognise that staff members are our most important resource and so invest a lot of time and effort in carrying out a rigorous recruitment procedure, a structured induction and ongoing regular supervision. All Drugs Workers receive formal supervision on a monthly basis with access to supervisors outwith this time for ongoing support and supervision. In addition, we have a system in place to ensure training needs are identified and addressed as quickly as possible in order to ensure we are maximising the potential of all staff employed at Drugs Action. Regular in-house practice sessions are held on a monthly basis to cover team training issues and external training is provided when appropriate. Staff are also actively consulted on service developments through a range of in-house service team meetings.
Through investing heavily in staff recruitment, supervision, training and consultation it is hoped we get the best out of people in the staff team, enabling Drugs Action to continue delivering high quality services which make a real difference to peoples’ lives. |
