Incite Stimulant Users Project

It is recognised that many people who use stimulants often have little / no contact with services.

The Incite stimulant users service has been set up with this in mind and aims to meet the many and diverse needs of the stimulant using population.

Direct Services

Incite Stimulant Users Service is provided in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.

Incite provides a service tailored to the individual needs of stimulant users and their families. This includes:

  • Credible information and advice to individuals who use Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, Ecstasy and Amphetamines.
  • Acupuncture for relief of anxiety, poor sleep, depression, detox and comedown.
  • Structured programmes and support to individuals who have developed problematic stimulant use.
  • Information and support to family members.

Incite is involved in awareness raising activity on an outreach basis and has recently supported activity related to the Know the Score Cocaine Campaign in Aberdeen.

Training is offered to professionals and service providers who may come into contact with stimulant users.

Contact can be made to the project via Drugs Action's telephone helpline.

Background

The Incite Stimulant Users Service was set up in September 2003, initially funded by the Scottish Executive as a Pilot Project.  It is one of only two specialist services in Scotland.

The Scottish Executive commissioned an external evaluation which examined the progress of the service until May 2005. This evaluation highlighted successes of the service and made recommendations for future development.  Within the constraints of available resources, these recommendations have been considered and implemented.
