Needle Exchange / Support Service
The Needle Exchange / Support Service has three main aims:
- To reduce the spread of blood borne pathogens (HIV, Hepatitis B & C).
- To provide information and advice to reduce the harms associated with injecting drug use.
- To encourage use of other Drugs Action services and facilitate referrals to other agencies where appropriate.
The Needle Exchange / Support Service offers the following:
- Assessment of need on first contact
- Safe disposal of used sets of injecting equipment
- Access to sterile sets of injecting equipment, disposal bins and citric
- Advice and practical support on alternatives to injecting
- Access to a range of free condoms
- Access to weekly Hepatitis A & B immunisation clinic
- Advice and information on 'safer' injecting practices
- Advice and information on HIV / AIDS / Hepatitis B & C
- Advice and information on stabilising / changing drug use
- Quick access to Drugs Action's other services
