Needle Exchange / Support Service

The Needle Exchange / Support Service has three main aims:

  1. To reduce the spread of blood borne pathogens (HIV, Hepatitis B & C).
  2. To provide information and advice to reduce the harms associated with injecting drug use.
  3. To encourage use of other Drugs Action services and facilitate referrals to other agencies where appropriate.

The Needle Exchange / Support Service offers the following:

  • Assessment of need on first contact
  • Safe disposal of used sets of injecting equipment
  • Access to sterile sets of injecting equipment, disposal bins and citric
  • Advice and practical support on alternatives to injecting
  • Access to a range of free condoms
  • Access to weekly Hepatitis A & B immunisation clinic
  • Advice and information on 'safer' injecting practices
  • Advice and information on HIV / AIDS / Hepatitis B & C
  • Advice and information on stabilising / changing drug use
  • Quick access to Drugs Action's other services
