Family Support Group
The Family Support Group provides confidential, non judgmental support and advice for family members and friends of drug users which enables them to deal with their family situation in a more confident and constructive manner.
The main features of the service are:
- Access to clear information on drugs and their effects
- Contact with people in similar situations
- Large and small group discussions focusing on effective ways of coping
- One to one support available during the meeting as required
- Input from drug workers on relevant issues such as understanding dependency, rehabilitation, stress management and coping skills
- Access to other Drugs Action services such as one to one support and Telephone Helpline
- Information on other services available in Aberdeen
- Input from other relevant agencies as required
Meeting times: 7.00pm - 9.00pm every alternate Wednesday
Venue: Drugs Action, 7 Hadden Street , Aberdeen
Two Drugs Workers attend to facilitate the group and to provide information and advice. The group is open to anyone who has a friend or relative who is using drugs. Relatives are usually seen on an individual basis in the first instance to ensure the group is appropriate for them.
Families First
Families First is a collaborative service between Drugs Action and Primrosehill Family Centre (Aberlour Child Care Trust).
The service, which began operating in June 2002, has the following as its main objectives:
- Co-ordinated multi-agency work with families where drug use is an issue
- Inter-agency assessment of the families needs
- A holistic approach which meets the specialist needs of individual family members and the family as a whole
- Appropriate interventions tailored to the child and parent needs
- One to one programmes with parents and/or children
- Joint work with family members individually and collectively
- Group work programmes.
