Counselling Service

The counselling service is available to drug users, ex users and family members seeking to make positive changes in their lives. The service provided is tailored to the specific needs of individual clients.

The counselling service provides:

  • Initial assessment of need and liaison/referral to other services within Drugs Action and to external agencies where appropriate.
  • Short term crisis intervention.
  • Motivational counselling to enable service users to make positive and informed choices about their drug use.
  • Preparation for residential detoxification and rehabilitation.
  • Ongoing Counselling to:

    • Support changes in drug use

    • Address drug related and underlying personal issues

    • For those who are drug free, to manage lapse and develop relapse prevention strategies

    • Help family members respond to drug use in a positive and constructive way.

 

Specialist Counselling available for:

  • People affected by HIV / Hepatitis B&C
  • Female Drug Users
  • Young People
  • Parents / relatives of drug users
  • People who are drug free

 

Opening Times:

The Counselling Service is delivered at the city centre base and through a range of community locations at times to suit individual clients.

Evening appointments are available.
